We didn't get out of town till around 2pm. We stopped at a friend's house just before we left because she had new baby goats to see! Yay! Nubians! I liked the little brown one, and Phil liked the black one.
The Spanish Peaks looked lovely with their coating of new spring snow, but made us all the happier to head south!
Leaving Colorful Colorado, entering New Mexico - Land of Enchantment
The clouds reflected nicely on the side of the Jeep my parents were kind enough to lend us for this trip.
Near Capulin National Monument. This is an extinct volcano. We wanted to drive up the big cone (not this one), but it cost $5 and it was closed after 5pm anyway. BOO to National Monuments with all their government fees and sissy rules!
I love trains. More specifically, I love making them blow their whistles for me. When I saw this engine coming I rolled down my window, stuck my arm out and pumped for all I was worth. The engineer did not disappoint! I got a long, loud whistle, and I was floating on clouds of euphoria for the rest of the day.
The "Sex, Drugs, Graffiti" car was our favorite in a long line of stunningly decorated boxcars sitting idle on the tracks, waiting for an engine. It warranted screeching brakes and a quick u-turn on the highway.
Phil loved to take pictures of windmills... (this is but one of many)
While I liked this lonely tree.
And this mushroom cloud.
We saw many pronghorns, beautiful in the golden sunset light, and they stood out sharply against the dark gray-black of the stormy eastern sky. Unfortunately I couldn't get any good photos. This proud fella stood still long enough for me to get a very grainy long-distance shot that does him no justice whatsoever.
More cloud reflections on the Jeep.
And in the Jeep mirror.
Sunset fades
Day is done.
